Navigating the Unexpected: A Hidden Manhole in a New Estate

At Drain Technology, adaptability is at the core of our service. Over the past two days, one of our skilled civils teams was deployed to a new-build housing estate to locate, expose, and raise a hidden manhole that had been overlooked during previous phases of construction.

The estate is now preparing for adoption, and part of that process includes ensuring all drainage and access points are accurately located and accessible. Initially, project documentation suggested the manhole chamber was positioned beneath a tarmac section of the road. However, after a thorough on-site investigation, our team discovered that the chamber was in fact beneath the block-paved carriageway—a detail missed in the original plans.

This discovery required a careful revision of the original works. Our team carried out precision cutting and reinstatement of the block paving to complete the task to the highest standards. The work, though complex, was executed safely and professionally, with minimal disruption to the surrounding area—exactly what you’d expect from Drain Technology’s TTM Division.

This project is a strong example of the civils capability within our TTM Division. Whether it’s for new installs, blockage clearance, or telecoms groundworks, our teams are equipped to deliver compliant, efficient and well-coordinated services, even when unexpected challenges arise. With every job, we uphold our commitment to quality, safety and the standards required for handover and adoption.
